Dear colleagues,
We are currently seeking a postdoctoral fellow (PD) in the field of biomolecular solid-state NMR to join our team at the CNRS/Lyon University in France (https://mmsb.cnrs.fr/equipe/rmn-du-solide-des-proteines/).
Background: The project is situated within the broader context of developing strategies to more effectively prevent and control the emergence of infectious diseases, within the framework of a larger consortium. Bunyaviruses represent several of the priority pathogens listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as possible causes of future pandemics, including Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV), Lassa fever virus (LASV), and Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV). These viruses currently emerge in southern parts of Europe. In this context, our objective is to contribute a molecular understanding of the mechanisms of infection.
Goal: The objective of this project is to study the structures of, and interactions between, the membrane-bound proteins of these viruses. To achieve this objective, the PD will utilize proton-detected solid-state NMR spectroscopy to examine the samples prepared using biochemical techniques that are well-established in the lab. If interested, the PD may also develop or implement innovative NMR or biochemistry approaches that target the specific features of the proteins. The PD will work closely with other lab members involved in different aspects of this larger project.
Environment: The laboratory is located within the Molecular Microbiology and Structural Biochemistry unit (MMSB) in the Lyon Gerland Bioscience Campus, in close proximity to the city center and with convenient access to public transportation, including the subway, tram, and cycle paths. We offer a welcoming environment with a friendly and satisfying working atmosphere, excellent facilities, a workplace with all the benefits of public service, as well as training and development opportunities. As the second largest city in France, Lyon is a prominent center for research on viral disease. The MMSB has access to a range of high-field NMR instruments, including those at the CRMN Lyon (500-1000 MHz) and national platforms (1.2 GHz). The project primarily utilizes 0.7 mm MAS probes.
Candidate: We are looking for highly motivated, talented and ambitious young scientists to join our collaborative and enthusiastic team. The successful candidate should have a degree in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics and should be proficient in NMR, solid-state or liquid-state. Experience in biochemistry is an advantage. Activities include protein preparation using cell-free protein synthesis; the biophysical characterization of the proteins and their interactions, NMR measurements (0.7 mm 1H-detected MAS NMR); spectra analysis (CCPNmr) and data interpretation. The development of innovative approaches in NMR or biochemistry are highly encouraged, according to the candidate's specific interests.
Apply: Send your CV, your publication list, a motivation letter, and contact information for two referees to Anja Böckmann (a.bockmann@ibcp.fr), or deposit you documents on https://emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/CDD/UMR5086-ANJBOC-011/Default.aspx?lang=EN. Please reach out for further questions. The position is initially a one-year contract, with the possibility for renewals. Salary is in accordance with CNRS regulations and commensurate with experience and post-thesis annuities. The position will commence at the earliest in January 2025, with later being possible.
