PhD position in protein NMR spectroscopy in Lyon
Dear community,
We are currently seeking a PhD student in the field of protein NMR to join our team at the CNRS/Lyon University in France (https://mmsb.cnrs.fr/en/team/protein-solid-state-nmr/).
Research Project
Our research aims to unravel the elusive structural details of Hepatitis D Virus (HDV), focusing on how HDV antigens (S-HDAg and L-HDAg) form ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes with viral RNA. Using a combination of solution and solid-state NMR, together with other methods (ITC, SPR, AFM, cryoEM, …) we aim to explore interactions that cannot be captured by traditional structural methods, offering new insights into the behavior of HDV proteins and their interactions with nucleic acids. This project, in collaboration with virologists and supported by robust prior data, seeks to achieve:
- Understanding the assembly of the viral RNP.
- Mapping of RNA binding sites on HDV antigens.
- Identifying RNA regions involved in these interactions.
- Exploring potential therapeutic inhibitors through fragment screening.
The lab and environment
The successful candidate will join the protein solid-state NMR team led by Anja Böckmann and will be supervised by Lauriane Lecoq. The laboratory is located in the Molecular Microbiology and Structural Biochemistry unit (MMSB) on the Lyon Gerland Campus, close to the city center. We offer a collaborative research and welcoming environment, with a friendly working atmosphere and excellent facilities.
As the second largest city in France, Lyon is a major center for viral disease research. The MMSB has access to a range of high field NMR instruments, including those at the CRMN Lyon (500-1000 MHz) and national platforms (1.2 GHz).
Your profile
- Master in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology or chemistry
- Strong interest in protein structure and interactions
- Experience in biochemistry or NMR
The 3-years PhD position will start at the beginning of January 2025.
Application
Review of the applications will start in September 2024 and continue until the position is filled. Send your CV, a cover letter, and references contact from previous experiences to Lauriane Lecoq: lauriane.lecoq@cnrs.fr
Please feel free to contact me for any additional information,
