Under the supervision of the Director, the position primarily consists of managing the day-to-day operations of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) facility at the Brown Cancer Center (BCC).  This is a high technology core facility that services the needs of researchers at the BCC, University of Louisville and elsewhere in Kentucky. The facility houses an Oxford 14.1 T magnet with a Bruker Avance Neo spectrometer equipped with a Prodigy cryoprobe. There is also an Oxford 18.8 magnet equipped with Varian hardware and a 9.4 T wide bore magnet system capable of small animal imaging. Position requires maintenance of the NMR instrumentation including regularly scheduled cryogen fills.  Ability to diagnose NMR hardware issues in consultation with equipment manufacturers and maintain the equipment in full operating condition is essential to the position.


The successful applicant will:

-Manage the computer systems in the NMR suite.

-Install new software for NMR data processing and analysis and  instruct users on the use of software and schedule usage of the NMR equipment.

-Run NMR measurements, analyze data, and collaborate with users that are both experienced and inexperienced.


This position requires a strong background in liquid state NMR, experience in solid state and metabolomics is considered a plus. The position involves not only technical abilities in NMR that requires a good background in physics and chemistry but also trouble-shooting skills and the ability to maintain computers that are located within the NMR facility.


Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D + 5 yrs applied research experience or Master’s degree + 7 yrs applied research experience.


Background in electronics with the ability to diagnose hardware issues associated with the NMR instrumentation in consultation with equipment manufacturers.  Hardware training by equipment manufacturers is a plus.
