PhD topic: The PhD will focus on developing and applying ultra-low temperature fast MAS DNP in the 20 to 100 K range for the detection of low receptive nuclei. Our home-built setup (quasi-unique worldwide) is under continuous development and preliminary results show that it enables orders of magnitude of sensitivity gain compared to 100 K DNP measurements. During this PhD, we are planning to investigate new polarizing agents, Helium sample spinning beyond 20 kHz with a 3.2 mm rotor, and implement indirect detection approaches of low to ultra-low gamma nuclei (e.g. 17O, 43Ca). The methodology will be used to investigate the surface of ligand-capped ZnO nanocrystals and various calcium-phosphate biomaterials.

 

Location: Grenoble is one of the major cities in Europe for research with a large international scientific community. In addition, Grenoble has a large international student population, is a very pleasant city to live in, and is known as the “Capital of the Alps” with easy access to great skiing and hiking. It’s also only 2 hours’ drive to the Mediterranean Sea, Italy, or Switzerland. Grenoble, Lyon, and Geneva airports are nearby and permit straightforward international travel.

 

Benefits: Gross salary~ €2,500/month, health insurance, partial reimbursement of local transport expenses.
