We are looking for an NMR Applications Scientist to assist with our endeavors involving the translation of state-of-the-art methods within quantum computing and quantum information science into viable sensitivity-enhancing methodologies for applications within solution-state NMR spectroscopy and MRI. This role will involve translational science, whereby new strategies are developed and tested using quantum numerical simulations and then experimentally validated and implemented. Ideally, applicants should have at least 2 years of experience in NMR experiments and simulations. Other details are as follows:

Our proprietary technologies enhance the detection sensitivity of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). This decreases the total time required for experimental data acquisition, both in the lab and the clinic, thereby unlocking a wide variety of important applications in medical imaging and spectroscopy.
  • Designing and implementing experimental protocols for the deployment, execution, and validation of our proprietary quantum algorithms in solution-state NMR spectroscopy
  • Assist with designing, producing, and executing specialized RF pulse sequences that implement our quantum algorithms on commercial NMR hardware
  • Assist with data processing and data interpretation
  • Assist with the production, testing, and debugging of computer code that simulates the effects of our quantum algorithms within solution-state NMR spectroscopy
  • Assist with the writing of production-quality code and libraries that can be easily deployed
  • Investigating technical problems, ensuring design quality, providing recommendations, and leading solutions
  • Assisting with the development of demos for our models
Basic Qualifications
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Chemistry, Physics, Medical Physics, or similar
  • Experience with independently establishing and executing 1D solution- and/or solid-state NMR experiments
  • Basic knowledge of the physics underlying the NMR phenomenon
  • Experience with programming and using a high-performance computing application (e.g., MATLAB, Mathematica, Python, or an equivalent)
  • Experience with standard commercial NMR software and hardware (Bruker or Agilent or Tecmag deploying TopSpin, VNMR, and TNMR, respectively)
  • Basic knowledge of solution-state NMR sample preparations
Nice-to-have Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience in Quantum Computing and Quantum Control
  • Access to NMR spectrometers
  • Access to a wet lab/chemistry lab
  • Previous experience with nuclear hyperpolarization techniques (e.g., parahydrogen -induced polarization, dynamic nuclear polarization, optically-excited and detected NMR)
  • Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Experience with electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy
  • Experience with multi-dimensional NMR experiments
  • Working knowledge of quantum mechanics, including unitary operators, spin, the product-operator formalism
  • Working knowledge of MRI
This is not a remote position and we are based in Toronto, Canada. While being in South Ontario is preferred for this position, other places in Ontario may also be considered.
