Post-doc in NMR metabolomics (signal processing) – Nantes, France

A post-doc position is available in the MIMM team of the CEISAM laboratory in Nantes, France.

The postdoctoral researcher will join a multi-disciplinary and international team working on the development of NMR methods for the analysis of mixtures. The project focuses on the evaluation, optimization and development of signal processing methods to integrate signals coming from series of 2D NMR metabolomics datasets.

The work is part of the SUMMIT project funded by the European Research Council (ERC), led by Prof. Patrick Giraudeau and in close collaboration with Dr. Marine Letertre. The postdoctoral researcher will work in collaboration with several NMR spectroscopists from the team, and will interact with a broad community of scientists within the French MetaboHub research infrastructure.

The project will involve the investigation of signal processing methods to integrate 2D NMR spectral fingerprints acquired with a variety of fast 2D NMR methods in the context of metabolomics. In particular, the postdoctoral researcher will evaluate several methods which have been developed for the integration of 2D NMR datasets (either commercially or freely available) in order to determine those best suited for the analysis of large series of 2D NMR spectra acquired in batch. Further optimization of these methods will be required, as well as the possible development of home-made processing tools. The resulting workflow will then be applied to several metabolomics studies pertaining to different scientific areas (health, chemical ecology, food safety…) for which the data have already been acquired.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and have a demonstrated track record in the processing of spectroscopic data (preferably magnetic resonance). Experience in computer programming is necessary. Good communication skills and a propensity for teamwork are also essential.

The MIMM (Magnetic resonance, Isotopomics, Metabolomics, Monitoring) team of the CEISAM lab works on method developments in solution-state NMR and their application to the analysis of mixtures. It is equipped with state-of-the-art NMR spectrometers, in the 400 to 700 MHz range. The team is part of the French national research infrastructure in Metabolomics and Fluxomics (MetaboHub). CEISAM is the molecular chemistry lab of Nantes University, where research includes physical and analytical chemistry, organic synthesis and catalysis, and chemical biology. The lab is located in the vibrant city of Nantes, close to the beautiful Atlantic coast of South Brittany.

The net monthly salary will be about 2000 € depending on previous experience (teleworking allowed 1-2 days/week). The position is initially for 1 year, with possible extension.

Applications must be sent to patrick.giraudeau@univ-nantes.fr, and should consist of a CV, cover letter, and the name of three references. Applications will be examined on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
