Research Specialist / Staff Scientist – Protein Biochemistry

Job Summary: Full time protein biochemist in a molecular biophysics and structural biology laboratory.  Job responsibilities include conducting biochemical research involving the application of structural biology approaches to the problems of molecular biophysics and proteomics. The work entails design and purchase of _expression_ plasmids for genes from the human and other genomes, _expression_ of these constructs in bacterial and yeast hosts, and purification and analysis of the resultant recombinant proteins using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and other methods. The successful incumbent will collaborate with other team members to characterize biomolecules biochemically and biophysically, and to prepare suitable quantities of these proteins for structural studies using NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, small angle X-ray scattering, and/or cryoEM.

Minimum Qualifications: Requires a M.S., M.A., or Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline such as biochemistry or molecular biology. This training must include experience with _expression_ and purification of recombinant proteins.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have excellent technical skills, a high degree of attention to experimental details, and good communication skills. Specific required skills include sterile technique, calibration and maintenance of lab equipment, and organizational abilities. The ability to read and understand scientific papers and to apply new techniques and protocols reported in the literature is also required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Some knowledge and training in biophysical techniques, NMR spectroscopy,  X-ray crystallography, and/or Cryo Electron Microscopy is desirable, but not required.

Salary range is $50K - $80K, commensurate with experience. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
