The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (http://biochem.dal.ca) invites applications from outstanding researchers for a probationary tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin on or before July 1, 2023, as part of Dalhousie’s Faculty of Medicine (http://medicine.dal.ca). The ideal candidate will have expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology with an emphasis on protein science that takes advantage of a combination of experimental and computational techniques. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to: enzymology and mechanistic biochemistry, evolution-based protein design, protein engineering, and synthetic biology. The successful candidate will mentor undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows, as well as teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of protein science, such as computational biochemistry, enzymology, and protein engineering. The potential to develop an independent, well-funded research program and to collaborate with Dalhousie faculty is essential.

In addition to a suite of multi-user biophysical characterization instruments located within the Department (http://bit.ly/3p8JNen), state-of-the-art core facilities are dedicated to biological mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, microscopy and imaging, and NMR spectroscopy. The Department is home to the Protein Assembly Research Team (http://bit.ly/3p9UL31) and associated with the interdisciplinary Institute for Comparative Genomics (http://icgenomics.ca), the Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute (http://bhcri.ca), the Brain Repair Centre (http://brainrepair.ca), the Canadian Centre for Vaccinology (http://centerforvaccinology.ca), the QEII Health Sciences Centre and the IWK Health Centre.
Applicants must have a Ph.D., at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience, and a strong research track record as evidenced, for example, by first-authored publications, success in obtaining competitive funding, and clear demonstration of success in multiple stages of training. Complete applications must include: (i) a curriculum vitae; (ii) a two-page-maximum statement (references may be appended) outlining the proposed research program and indicating probable sources of research funding; (iii) a one-page-maximum statement of teaching interests; and, (iv) the names of three referees with contact information.
