Two PhD positions are open in the Nantes NMR group of the CEISAM research institute, in the field of small-molecule NMR of complex mixtures.
The PhD students will join a dynamic NMR group and will benefit from interactions with many other PhD students and postdocs. The two PhD projects will consist of:
1) developing and optimizing benchtop NMR methods to improve the performance of compact NMR for complex mixtures such as compounds from chemical syntheses to food matrices, and to evaluate their potential for quality control and process monitoring,
2) developing and optimizing high-field NMR methods to verify the structure of the products of a flow synthesis, and integrating them into the operation of an autonomous reactor for the discovery of new reactions, in collaboration with an organic chemistry group.

The NMR group of the CEISAM lab works on method developments in solution-state NMR and their application to the analysis of mixtures. It is equipped with state-of-the-art NMR spectrometers, in the 400 to 700 MHz range, a microimaging system and a prototype polariser for dissolution-DNP, as well as benchtop NMR spectrometers.
CEISAM is the molecular chemistry lab of the Université de Nantes, where research includes physical and analytical chemistry, organic synthesis and catalysis, and chemical biology. The lab is located in the vibrant city of Nantes, close to the Atlantic Coast of south Brittany.
